We have been informed of the following from SGN:
Notification of major gas works: Luton Road, Chatham
We’re writing to make you aware of our forthcoming upgrade of our gas network on Luton Road in Chatham. Our £590,000 project involves the essential replacement of old metal gas mains with new plastic pipe to ensure we continue to provide a safe and reliable gas supply to the local area. Our contractor Forefront Utilities will undertake this work on our behalf.
So, that we can minimise the impact of our essential work, we have carefully consulted and planned our works in partnership with Medway Council, our project will start on Monday 5th February 2018 and last approximately 8 months.
We’ll start our project in Luton Road at its junction with Chatham Hill. To keep everyone safe around our site, we’ll have temporary traffic lights in place at this junction for approximately five weeks. After we’ve finished this first stage, our engineers will begin progressing southwards along Luton Road into Luton High Street.
We’ll need to return to Luton Road in future to continue upgrading our gas service pipes on the eastern side of the road. Further details on both phases can be found on our dedicated page on our website, with a link to the online version of a bespoke project leaflet of our works on Luton Road: https://www.sgn.co.uk/Roadworks/Southern-projects/Chatham-Luton-Road/
We understand that roadworks can be frustrating. However, the new plastic pipe has a minimum lifespan of 80 years. This means that when the work is complete, Chatham residents will continue to enjoy the benefits of a safe and reliable gas supply for years to come.
